What We Do With How We Feel About Climate Change - ZOOM event with Jo Hamilton @ ZOOM

From facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/183423169559440/

You are warmly invited to our second online event as part of our free seminar series run by Think & Do: Responding to Our Climate Crisis, a new initiative based in Oxford.

This evening will be hosted by Jo Hamilton who is an academic, researcher, activist and group facilitator on environment and climate change, currently finishing her PhD on climate change and its emotional impact.

What is it about?

Engaging with climate change can provoke a range of emotions, such as grief, fear, love, anger, hope and hopelessness. These can catalyse involvement in action, they can also undermine some of our best intentions – contributing to withdrawal or burnout from overwork. How can our emotional responses to climate change – and other issues such as COVID-19 – be generative and support our engagement, creativity and courage?

In this talk, Jo will draw on her research and practice of groupwork that can enable a ‘turning towards’ challenging issues, and helpus to cultivate a ‘deep determination’ to act for social and environmental justice. After the discussion you are welcome to stay for a short taster exercise of ‘Active Hope’- a strengthening practice that helps us to face, cope with and give our best response to disturbing situations in the world. This draws on the work of Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone, who co-authored the book ‘Active Hope’: How to face the mess we’re in without going crazy’, before coming back together as a group to reflect on our experiences.
