Let’s plant 500 trees and create a forest of words!
It’s a very sad fact that only 13% of the UK has tree cover. Compare this to 31% in France and 36% in Spain!
Trees absorb carbon, reduce pollution, nurture wildlife and can fight flooding. Our last attempt at planting these trees was cancelled ironically due to flooding so we are crossing our fingers that we can go ahead this year.
Our tree planting at Oatlands Rec looks set to go ahead on Sunday the 6th of March, from 10am to 3pm.
Come along for as much or as little time as you can spare. You can plant 1 tree or 10! 🌲
What you should bring?
Appropriate clothing e.g. wellies, rainproofs, gloves. We will have some shovels/spades, but if you have your own you might want to bring that. Bring cake to share. We’ll be providing hot drinks for donations so if you have a camping chair, you might want to bring that along so you can sit down to have your tea and cake! 🍰
If you have a camping table that you’d be willing to bring along, could you let Karen know at events@lcwo.org.uk
Creating a ‘Forest of Voices’
As well as planting trees, we will be using an app called ‘Echoes’ to create a ‘Forest of Voices’, recording the words of planters who would like to say something for others to hear when they walk around the site in future.
Meeting point
We will be planting the trees in both Oatlands Recreation Field and King George’s playing field.
If you arrive and can see the ODS van or our gazebo, head for that! Otherwise, assemble at the children’s playground in Oatlands Recreation Field (nearest road is Riverside Road) and one of us will meet you there.
Please remember that their are no toilet facilities! If you’re caught short you’ll have to nip over to Waitrose – just a couple of minutes away.
