On Saturday March 9th 2019, we held our first climate cafe event at WOCC: ‘Climate emergency – what next?’
Just under 40 people joined us to hear Cllr Craig Simmons of the Green Party talk about the progress towards reducing carbon emissions in Oxford, and Oxford City Council’s declaration of a Climate Emergency, which was passed in a unanimous vote at the City Council meeting in January this year; and exploring the emotional dimensions with researcher and activist Jo Hamilton.
Participants then joined in group discussions at three tables – one about the political aspects, led by Cllr Simmons; one about emotional aspects, facilitated by Jo Hamilton; and another exploring citizens’ assemblies, facilitated by Liz Goold, a member of the Oxford Democracy Cafe’s Citizens’ Assembly for Oxford working group.
Below are the materials from the event:
- Craig’s slides, with audio commentary:
- Jo Hamilton’s notes from the session: What we do about how we feel about climate change…and why that matters – notes from LCWO Climate Cafe 090319
- Liz Goold’s notes: Citizens’ assembly notes from LCWO Climate Cafe 090319
